A kitchen chimney, that thing you put over your stove, sucks up smoke, grease, and smells when you're cooking. It keeps your kitchen air clean, stops grease from getting all over your walls, and gets rid of lingering odors.

⚙️ 2. Chimney Types
A. By How They Look

Wall-mounted:

Sits against the wall, right above your stove.

Super popular in Indian kitchens and smaller spaces.

Island:

Hangs from the ceiling over a kitchen island.

Great if you have an open kitchen.

Built-in:

Tucked away inside your kitchen cabinet for a clean look.

Saves space and looks good.

Corner:

Goes in the corner of your kitchen if your stove is set up that way.

B. What They Do

Ducted:

Pushes smoke and heat outside through a pipe.

Works better, quieter, and lasts longer.

Needs a way to get to the outside.

Ductless (recycling):

Cleans the air with charcoal filters and puts it back in the kitchen.

Easy to put in; good for apartments without outside vents.

You have to change the filters a lot.

💨 3. How Strong Is It? (Suction)

Measured in m³/hr (how much air it moves per hour).

Shows how fast the chimney gets rid of smoke.

Kitchen Size Cooking Suction You Need
Small (<100 sq.ft) Light cooking 500–800 m³/hr
Medium (100–200 sq.ft) Normal Indian cooking 800–1200 m³/hr
Large (>200 sq.ft) Lots of frying 1200–1500 m³/hr

Quick Tip: If you cook Indian food a lot (frying, spices), get one that's at least 1000 m³/hr.

🧰 4. Filters – Super Important
Filter What It's Made Of Best For How to Clean
Baffle Steel/aluminum layers Indian cooking (traps grease well) Every 2–3 weeks
Mesh Lots of aluminum layers Light cooking Every week
Carbon Charcoal bits Ductless chimneys, gets rid of smells Every 3–6 months (replace)
No Filter No filter, uses a blower to toss out grease Easy to keep up, new style Clean blower every 6–12 months
🔌 5. Size

Get a chimney that's the same size or bigger than your stove.

Stove Size Chimney Size
2 burners 60 cm
3–4 burners 90 cm
🔇 6. How Loud?

Usually around 58–70 dB.

Ducted ones are quieter than ductless.

🌡️ 7. Buttons and Extras

Newer chimneys might have:

Touch or motion controls

Self-cleaning (uses heat or water)

LED lights

Timer

Remote

App control

🧼 8. Keeping It Clean

Regularly:

Soak filters in hot water with baking soda and soap.

Clean the oil tray every month (if it has one).

Don't scrub too hard, use gentle soap and a soft brush.

Get it serviced every 6–12 months.

Check the pipe for problems once a year.

⚖️ 9. Electricity Use

About 120–250 watts.

Self-cleaning models use a bit more when cleaning.

🔩 10. Putting It In

Hang it 24–30 inches above the stove.

Don't put it near windows.

Use PVC or aluminum pipes (not too long, not too many bends).

💵 11. How Much?

Type Price (INR) Notes
Basic ₹4,000 – ₹8,000 Simple
Mid-range ₹8,000 – ₹18,000 Good for most kitchens
Fancy ₹20,000 – ₹50,000+ Lots of extras
